Sun Pictures, the film production arm of Sun TV Ne t work, is eyeing August 2010 as the possible window for releasing En dhi ran, featuring Rajni kanth and Aishwarya Rai.

Directed by Sh an kar, Endhiran in Tamil is the most costly Indian film ever made.

Originally laun ch ed by Ayngaran International, an arm of Eros International, at an estimated budget of Rs 100 crore, Sun Pictures subsequ ently took ov er En dhiran as its maiden production venture and is now planning to simultaneously release it in three languages – Hindi and Telugu, besides Tamil.

Current market estima tes, largely un confirmed, peg the cost of the film at anywhere around Rs 150 crore when finally completed. “The film’s crew is now busy gearing up to shoot the songs for the Hindi version,” a senior official with Sun TV Network said.

However, Kala nithi Ma r an, CMD, Sun TV Net work, declined to answer queries on the film.

In Hindi and Telugu, the film is likely to be titled as Robot, the original title pl anned for the Tamil version too. However, it had to undergo a name change to make itself eligible for the entertainment tax waiver per mitted by the Ta mil Na du government for feature films with Tamil title.

Shankar, who shot to fame in the early 90s with the Tamil film, Gentleman, has mostly only hits to his credit barring Boys in Tamil and Nayak in Hindi. His hits include Mudhalvan, Indian, Anniyan and Sivaji, which was incidentally Rajnikanth’s last hit. Sun Pictures, which forayed into Tamil film production less than two years ago, earlier preferred to buy out films and distributed them, backed by high-profile marketing campaigns.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra presented a first look at his next film “Delhi-6” (earlier titled in “Dilli 6”) to the media at the Dubai International Film Festival today (December 14, 2008).
The very short, intense looking teaser was a collage of scenes from old Delhi such as the Friday prayers at the Jama Masjid and cycle rickshaws in the meandering lanes of the old town interspersed with shots of the Statue of Liberty, a carefree Sonam Kapoor dancing with a pigeon perched on her head and Abhishek Bachchan in a variety of moods. And a soulful, unmistakably A.R. Rahman number in Sonu Nigam’s voice playing in the background.
“The film is about Roshan Mehra, who travels to India with his ailing grandmother. Little does he realise that this short trip will turn into the longest journey of his life – a journey where he discovers India and himself,” said Mehra. The story is told against the backdrop of the walled city of old Delhi. And the number 6 in the title is the postal pin code of the area.
“I grew up in Delhi, but contrary to media reports this film is not autobiographical,” clarified Mehra. “I based it in old Delhi because I believe that the city is a microcosm of India in terms of our mindset. But despite the ancient setting, the film is an exploration of contemporary Indian society,” he added. Mehra also said that like “Rang De Basanti”, this film too has political overtones because he believes that “we cannot and should not avoid politics”.

[postlink]https://arrchennai.blogspot.com/2008/12/arr-interview-to-zee-news.html[/postlink]AR Rahman and music are synonymous. The mellifluous magic that the maestro composes enchants the very being of listeners across the world. His soulful music is a balm in these chaotic times, when India wreathes in pain after repeated terror attacks on its integrity and bloodbath in the name of region and religion.

And now he has won the prestigious Golden Globe nomination for his compositions for the internationally acclaimed ‘Slumdog Millionaire.’

In an exclusive interview to Spicezee.com’s Swati Chaturvedi in ‘Kahiye Janaab’, AR Rahman shares his views on these turbulent times, his music and much more.

Swati:
Being an artist, you are all the more sensitive to the problems that are plaguing the nation. What is your reaction to the terror attacks in Mumbai?

Rahman: I was completely devastated. The whole week was very bad. I had to finish a film. I finished the film and left for America. I was going through stress and extreme sadness. It took me almost a week to return back to my normal self.

Swati: Are you sad or angry after the attacks?

Rahman: Both. I am angry because it is inhuman to take lives. People who are responsible for our protection (read politicians) should not only inform and alert everyone, but also provide proper security. Rich or poor, every human being is entitled to proper security against such attacks. The good thing is that people are mature, they understand the problem and are not getting involved in the blame game. People are trying to tackle the problem intellectually. It’s important for educated masses to understand and work towards preventing such terror acts in the future.

Swati: You feel that the country is developing but do you think, somewhere the politicians are holding back the nation?

Rahman: No. India is a young country. Indians are strong and are progressing. Nobody can hold us back. I firmly believe that Indians are sensible and spiritual. Of late, the understanding has become better. We know what is true and what is false.

Swati: Your good friend Aamir Khan refrained from celebrating Eid. Did you celebrate Eid?

Rahman: No Eid this time. Even my wife called up and said that she doesn’t feel like celebrating Eid. There was so much sadness everywhere.

Swati: Of late, Islam is being labeled. What is the message of Islam for you?

Rahman: I became spiritual because of Sufism and it is a universal phenomenon. Sufism has followers from all religion. Because of Sufism, I have got success. India is a blessed place; even the Prophet has said this. Religion should not be labeled. Education is the message of Islam. Everyone should get proper education so that they gain wisdom.

Swati: How much does the political situation in the country affect your music?

Rahman: It actually kind of exhausted my energy. I had to take a break. I was in shock last week, but music is my medicine. Music transports and heals you. I feel that I am blessed and I want to share the same feeling with others. That’s why I don’t take hiatus from work because it is work that rejuvenates me. It is great to give something as beautiful as music to others.

Swati: Your song ‘Rubaru’ was very well received. Please tell us about it.

Rahman: ‘Rubaru’ means light and it is relevant in these dark days. Right now, there is so much confusion, negative feelings and anger. As an artist, what you can give is love and free hugs.

Swati: You have got stupendous success as a music composer. Which is personally your favourite album?

Rahman:
My latest Nokia Connections album gave me a lot of creative freedom. I did what I wanted to do. The song collection in the album is diverse. There are songs, which have never been done before. I have used a different style. The internal feedback that I have received is very good. Let’s see what people have to say about it. The compositions include a song from old Tamil literature, a love song - Jiah se Jiah, Punjabi song – Dil and other tracks.

Swati: Your music is becoming more meditative with age. Your take on this…

Rahman: I became old when I was 12 due to the circumstances in my family. May be I am getting younger now.

Swati: What is your inspiration while composing a romantic song?

Rahman: Love is definitely a phenomenon that transports you into a different world. Love is such a feeling that is beautiful. Even if a person is coming to murder you, love can change that person.

The interview ended on such a ‘lovely’ note, the maestro even crooned ‘Jiah se Jiah’ love song.

  • "It seems like , even when ARR sleeps, you can notice at times, his foot doing some tappings of some rhythms. Raihana used to feel that he is not sleeping, but in fact that
happens when he is actually sleeping".

This goes to show that even in subconscious stage , ARR is just thinking of beats, rhthyms, tunes and music .. Oh What a MAN ..!!! Music Walking on Two Feet
  • When ARR was 10 years old, he was used to wearing half pants and shirts. At that time, there was a Pir who visited him and advised him not to dress showing his legs. Right from that moment, ARR stopped wearing half pants, and till date has taken proper care to ensure that he is dressed properly all the time. ARR took the advise of the Pir in the right spirit, and even at that tender age didn;t reply back asking why ??.
  • Wherever ARR goes around the world, he always takes Indian Food. He likes Rasam Rice, Curd Rice and always longs for eating those food items. In fact he goes into some interior room and consumes food ".

" The song Ponmagal Vandhal from ATM has become very popular for two reasons. One it is being liked by everybody and many have kept the song as their ringtones, and many critics are now pouncing on ARR for this remix ( though he didnt do the remix
  • ARR 's Father used to have a Moris Minor car, and ARR 's Grandfather was an excellent driver. ARR started learning car driving right from the age of 9 in the beaches of CHENNAI ( Marina beach ) . Their entire family used to go round Chennai in that car. But they have disposed the car now.
  • " ARR 's Progress Report always used to feature " Good & Very quiet Boy " in the conduct Portion. And whenever he used to miss some homework, the teacher used to punish him by asking him to sit near girls, for which he would feel so bad, and come home very dissappointed
  • Whenever ARR travels abroad for concerts, he never puts his accordion or some of his instruments into the Main Baggage center. He carries them along with his hand baggage, and practises wherever he find it suitable to. Though carrying them would be highly painful all the time, he doesn;t mind that , and enjoys carrying them through.
  • When ARR & Raihanaji were children, they used to be taken to Parrys Corner in Chennai, by their mother, for shopping. There they used to love having sweets like Gulab Jamun & Basandhi. These sweets have always been their favourities.

When they were kids, their mom used to take them to a seth ji's sweet shop in parry's Corner in Chennai. The Gulab Jamoon's and Baasundhi's in that shop was their favourite and continues to remain their favourite even now.
So many years have passed, but still the taste of the sweets from that shop remains as it always used to be... Some good things in life never change, this is one of them!

  • "Right from his young age, ARR used to do soldering and displayed his interest in electronics. His aspiration was to become an Electronics Engineer, but destiny had something else in store for him "
  • Many Tamil Poets and Lyrisicts used to criticise ARR and ask him to learn Tamil properly, without even wondering at his Tamil accent and hoe he is able to compose such super hits in TAMIL. But not even one day ARR has given it back to them asking them why they haven't learnt music.".

ARR always follows this policy of taking criticisms easy. In fact this is highly admired , when we hear the song ( urvasi urvasi. Take it easy urvasi from Kaadhalan sung by ARR himself )

We should also imbibe this quality from our Leader. Take Life Easy, as it comes.

  • Some Interesting tid bits from Rahmania Show..

It seems ARR was very much attached to his grand mother and so was she towards ARR. She used to ask him if he would get her a saree , when he was 5 yrs old, for which ARR would reply that he would pack a room full of sarees for her, and she used to get delighted hearing that.. But unfortunately, she is not alive now, otherwise, ARR would have surely made it a reality now..
